Work at Home Mom WAHM | Stay at Home Mom SAHM

by Tina Allen, LMT, CPMMT, CPMT, CIMT
Updated January 2013

Many women are deciding to leave their fast paced career lives to stay at home with their children. Some consider themselves stay at home moms, while many others are work from home moms. So what’s the difference?

All moms that stay at home with their children are working all day long anyway. The good news is that there’s a way to have your cake and eat it too. Moms can enjoy the comfort and convenience of staying at home while feeling the satisfaction and reaping the rewards of a professional career – all the while, meeting the demands of your little one and spending the most developmental years of your baby’s life - with your baby. What a concept!!

Moms who consider themselves work from home moms, say this is not just as good, its better. They are still able to bring in a paycheck, but can get up and stop working anytime to feed, comfort, love and spend time with their little one. This is definitely worth doing, and many would tell every mom in the world that if they have that option . . . DO IT!

Of course, it is not always an easy transition to make from being a stay at home mom to a work from home mom. There are many considerations in making such a change. What type of work can you do and still be available to meet your family’s needs? And if you haven’t had any previous career training, how do you get the training you need to be successful?

First, you should consider a career that offers you the flexibility of making your own schedule allowing you to spend quality time with your family, and of course is a career you will enjoy. Women are finding their experience in raising their children lends to being successful in working in parent education. Why not take that experience and help other parents? But, how do you get started towards your new career? And what exactly is the perfect career in parent education?

A Certified Infant Massage Instructor is a parent educator who specializes in helping parents and caregivers to bond and connect with their children through nurturing touch. And one wonderful bonus for you, no previous education or experience is required to become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor. Training is offered over three days, and during this time you learn from a professional trainer, all you need to know to successfully lead parent education classes, one-on-one education sessions and how to market yourself and your classes. You will learn why infant massage and nurturing touch is vitally important to the healthy growth and development of both parent and child.

Certified Infant Massage Instructors have the flexibility of making their own schedule, charging what they feel is appropriate for their classes and setting the location of their classes. This can be convenient, as you can even consider teaching in a setting which is very easy to get to or even in your own home.

Despite the adjustment to becoming a work from home mom, most moms say they would do it all over again if given the choice! They feel so fortunate to have been available to spend time with their children almost every moment of their lives.
