My name is Dawn Keller, im currently enrolled in Massage Therapy at Florida Metropolitain University. We are currently working on our Business Plans, I initially went in with the thought "ok I will learn to rub people for a 1/2 hour get my money and be done". But now the more I learn the more excited I am about the knowledge I will have and how much I can help people. So last week I went away from the thought of opening my own spa in the middle of the ocean (yes I thought it could happen still could . So I kept thinking and thinking what in the world makes me excited why did I REALLY truly do this...what was my driving force? Then my teacher looked at me just last night and said Dawn I see you working in Pediatric massage....OMG!!!!! It was as if someone woke me up and said DUH this is why you are here this is what you are meant for. I have always said my was part of the inspiration for me going into this field!!! So I have put it out there it's in the universe and I know that I will be successful. Ok sorry I type too much I know

My point is this...I have come up with and idea..but I know it can be soo much more.... I would like to open a center...a cozy lil place where parents can come with there babies, sick, healthy, or just plain cranky whatever may be the case and I can work on the babies while teaching the parents some techniques that they can do at home with there children. I would like to also do group sessions where babies that may not need one on one attention but there parents are interested in bonding with them they can come and have lil sessions with there babies kinda like Mommy and Me Yoga but this will be massage sessions..... I would like to teach parents the power of healing through the hands. Im here to see if any of you all have any suggestions on where to begin or have experience with this type of center yourself.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this THANK YOU SOO MUCH AGAIN!!! - Dawn

Hi Dawn,

This all sounds so great. I am not sure how you would start setting up a center, but if you want to teach parents I think you should sign up for one of the Liddle Kidz Infant Massage Certification Classes. Then you get your certificate and be able to teach parents infant massage.

This is a link to information about the certified infant massage instructor training
I read a lot about Tina Allen who is the founder of Liddle Kidz and she has tons of experience in pediatric massage. I bet she would have some good ideas for you. That's one of the reasons I am going to take her class, because she is an expert at this.

Hello Dawn,

Your ideas sound wonderful, even the spa in the middle of the sea! I applaud you for considering providing therapy for children, and ultimately providing their families with a natural approach to bond with them. Having worked with babies, children and families for a number of years I can truly tell you how rewarding this work is.

A business plan can be quite an undertaking. One of my first suggestions would be to formulate an educational plan which will help you to get the background and training necessary to provide pediatric massage therapy. Having appropriate training can be the key between achieving success or not. My second suggestion would be to start with a one year plan, then a 3 year, 5 year and 10 year. Pace yourself, so that you can realistically accomplish your goals. This way you won't get discouraged and you'll be able to accomplish so much more. Please post your updates here as I'm sure we would all love to hear about your progress.

I wish you the very best success on your endeavors!
