Hello everyone!
I am a recently trained CIMT and I am running a half marathon for a wonderful charity that helps boys who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Tina invited me to post to this forum to get support for this great cause!
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a quickly progressing muscle wasting disease. I have an amazing nephew, named Nick, with DMD. He was diagnosed around the age of 5, and is now 15. It's been hard on all of us to watch him go from walking to being wheel chair bound to not being able to feed himself. He is now 15 and has such a beautiful spirit and optimistic personality! Thankfully, Nick and my family have constantly been supported by a wonderful organization called Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD)! PPMD helps parents find support groups and doctors and advocates for the families.
Recently, a treatment has been found for boys with DMD! My family and I are beside ourselves with the potential of this new drug and the hope that it brings Nick! PPMD is helping to fund the development of this drug.
Because of this, I am running (along with 2 of my sisters, my mom, and my husband) on behalf of Nick to raise money for PPMD! It is a beautiful cause, near to my heart, and it's just in time for the end of the year when we could all use a few tax deductions! No gift is too small to make a difference!
