Default Adoption Question

My friend & her husband are in the process of adopting a little girl. She is just adorable! Anyway I read somewhere that masssage can help new parents, especially adoptive parents bond with their baby. Does anyone know anything about that? Or where I can find more information.

Thanks!!!!!!!!

~ Stephanie

Default Yes, massage is great for adoptive families!

Hi Stephanie,

Congratulations to your friends! Adoption can at times be a long process, but it is so worth it!

Yes, massage can be useful in aiding with the bonding process. Through the use of infant massage parents learn to become more attuned to their baby's unique and individual forms of communication. It can help parents to understand their baby's cues and respond more appropriately. And of course having skin to skin contact through the use of loving touch can help the family's bond to strengthen and grow!

I'm so excited my friends will have their little girl very soon. I can't wait to hold her! I told them I would show them a few things I learned for infant massage but I think I am going to also buy them some lessons as a gift. I know they'll love it!

Stephanie

Did your friends end up massaging their baby? Do you think it made any difference for their family bonding?

amy,

Sorry I haven't replied until now I have been away lately. Yes, they have been using massage regularly and say that they notice that their little girl is adapting very well to their family. I taught them some strokes that I knew but I also bought them lessons too. It's always better to learn form a professional. They really think it has made such a difference in their bond. They feel like she is just a regular baby girl that is part of their family. It is so wonderful to see first hand.

Default Adoption from China

My friend's adoptd a little girl from China and they used massage to help bond with her. They said it really worked alot. Now they stil give her massage. Sometimes at bedtime and other times just when it seems like a good time. Like, my friend told me they were eating lunch the other day and her daughter came over and said her shoulders were "tense", so her mom massaged them. My friend said she must have heard her say that before, bet that was really cute.

I look forward to having this close, bonded relationship with my daughter. It must be so nice to be so close with your children.
