Who can attend the Certified Infant Massage Teacher Training?
Unlike many other healthcare fields, no previous training is necessary. We’ll teach you everything you need to know to start your new career, or enhance your existing career with the loving touch of infant massage.
The background of those who attend our infant massage certification course varies from physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals to moms, dads and grandparents.
Some of the many students who have attended our trainings include:
Massage therapists and bodyworkers, yoga instructors and teachers, social workers, child and family welfare advocates, child life specialists, early childhood educators, school administrators and teachers, daycare staff, child and family intervention specialists, military family specialists, healthcare researchers, directors of health and human service organizations, psychologists, adoption specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, lactation consultants, childbirth educators, doulas, midwives, hypnobirth educators and retirees looking to start a new path in the field of infant massage.
This is not a “hands-on” certification course. You do not need to be “licensed or certified to touch” to attend. All that is required is that the student be 18 years of age or older and have a desire to learn about infant massage with the goal of passing along the information to others. So, in short, who may attend this course? Anyone!

How long is the CIMT Training?
The training course is provided over three comprehensive in class training days. After the in class training you will also be required to complete after course practicum.

What is required to become a Certified Infant Massage Teacher?
Attend all three comprehensive in class training days and required after course practicum. Once your work has been reviewed and accepted, you will receive your CIMT certificate.

What is the CIMT required after class practicum?
- Complete infant massage lessons with 3 families (3 babies with their caregivers).
- Ask caregivers to complete class evaluations at the end of your last session with each family.
- Design 3 handouts for infant massage classes (more information provided during CIMT Course)
- Return all of your work within six months of the last day of your CIMT Training course for review and approval

How long does it take to become a CIMT?
First you attend the full 3 day comprehensive in class course. Then complete after course practicum. We ask that you complete and submit the after course practicum for review and approval within six months of the last day of the course you attended. However, you can complete this process much sooner, if you are able to complete your after course practicum in a shorter timeframe.

What is a CIMT able to do?
- Provide infant massage lessons to parents and caregivers, in group or individual sessions
- Give presentations, informational talks and lectures on the wonders of infant massage
The certification does not allow you to:
- Train or certify others to be teachers of infant massage
- Offer any type of continuing education units and/or continuation hours
- Provide infant massage instruction for child with advanced special healthcare needs
- Provide hands-on massage therapy for infants

I am enrolled in an upcoming CIMT course, can I invite families to attend the in-class parent-baby infant massage sessions?
Yes, absolutely! Please contact our office to find out the detailed times the courses will be offered or feel free to share our information with families you wish to invite. Although space is limited, we do our very best to accommodate all families who wish to attend.

I am enrolled in an upcoming CIMT course, what should I plan to bring to class?
First, you need your infant massage teaching doll. The doll should be 19” – 21” in length. Have a soft body, hard plastic face, hands/arms and feet/legs. When you lay the doll down the eyes should remain open.
Please also bring a blanket, towel or pillow to lay your teaching doll on.
You may wish to bring notepaper, pen and/or pencil to class to take notes. You will be provided educational materials in class, but it is highly likely you will wish to take notes.
We sit on the floor for many portions of the course, so you may wish to bring a pillow or something else to sit on.
Please feel free to dress comfortably and in layers. The temperature of the training space may fluctuate. During the parent-infant in class massage sessions, the room will be warmed to a comfortable temperature for babies. This may feel quite warm to us, so dressing in layers allows you the ability to be comfortable during the entire course.
We do take frequent breaks, but also encourage the student to remember their needs. So, please feel free to bring water and snacks as needed to keep you energized throughout the day. We will offer a lunch break for at least one hour each day, and you are welcome to bring your own lunch, or find a local place in the area.
