3 Hour Session | Course Description: “Pediatric Massage: Highlighting the Effects of Trauma”
The impact of child abuse and trauma is far greater than its immediate effects. Trauma may come in many forms including hospitalization, experience physical and verbal abuse and traumatic natural events.
These experiences can shape a child’s development, and have consequences that last for years beyond the actual event. Research now shows that the physical, psychological, and behavioral consequences of child abuse and neglect impact not just the child and family, but the community as a whole. With appropriate safe, and effective interventions, we can provide children with compassion, nurturing and tools to ease the effects of trauma.
During this session, participants will learn about childhood trauma and effects
We will discuss the evidence based practice of pediatric massage therapy and indications for innovative use.
We will explore the importance of strategic approach for working with children with traumatic backgrounds.
A series of massage strokes will be taught, and hands-on practice will demonstrate how this sequence and approach may be especially beneficial to children.
This session includes a special presentation of a documentary by the Liddle Kidz Foundation of working with children in Japan after the traumatizing effects of the March 2011 Tsunami.

3 Hour Session | Course Description: “Pediatric Massage: Highlighting Massage for Autism & ADD/ADHD”
We are in the midst of a global epidemic. Children are diagnosed at an ever growing rate with one of many developmental disorders that include autism, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
According to a report published in the journal Pediatrics, 1 in every 88 children ages 3 - 17 years in the United States is estimated to have an autism spectrum disorder. The cost of a child’s lifelong care can be reduced by as much as two-thirds, when early diagnosis and appropriate interventions are put in place, such as the therapeutic intervention of pediatric massage therapy.
During this session, participants will learn about the evidence based practice of pediatric massage therapy and indications for innovative use.
Hands-on exercises will include utilizing childhood toys to increase tactile stimulation.
A series of massage strokes will be taught, and hands-on practice will demonstrate how this sequence may be especially beneficial to children diagnosed Autism and ADD/ADHD.
